USGS EROS has provided the following web services that can be used by the public to build custom applications:

• Elevation — Use the Elevation Service to obtain elevations from a variety of data sources for the United States, U.S. territories, and parts of North America.
• Coordinate Conversion — Use the USNG Service to convert between Geographic latitude/longitude coordinates and U.S. National Grid coordinates.
• Graphics — Use the PDF Service to generate PDF documents composed of WMS map requests.
• Inventory — Use the Inventory Service to find out which datasets cover a specific geographic area. This service can also provide many characteristics of those datsets including download options, metadata URLs, and WMS information that can be used to request map images.
• Downloads — Use the Request Validation and Download Services to obtain full resolution data.
